The ‘Valentine Tardiness Award’ goes to…

  • Posted on February 19, 2015 at 5:49 pm

…me!

But it is still February so meh, it could be worse.

I have been painting! In watercolour because my acrylicpaintcarpet fear has been preventing me creating any Stephie Art recently, but yesterday I had the genius idea of using paint I’ve half a chance of getting out of the carpet if I get any on the carpet so Stephie Art has resumed. And here it is, Valentine:

Valentine 2015

It’s about lurve and stuff, with sexy red bits and happy sunshine yellow and a little bit of darkness and you must always eat your greens so that’s in there too. The red bits right at the top have leaked from another painting but I’ve kept them in because sometimes that happens.

Birdie Blogging

  • Posted on March 26, 2013 at 12:20 am

A bird! A bird! I saw a bird! It probably wasn’t this one, I didn’t have my camera with me when I saw a bird, but if it wasn’t this one then it was just like this one…

little bird It was hopping and darting about, I stood and watched it for a while, then I painted it!

Here’s the painting I did of the bird, it’s called ‘A bird! A bird! I saw a bird!’ and it’s acrylic on A5 watercolour paper.

'A Bird! ABird! I Saw A Bird!' 2013

The black and white symbolise the bird, and the green is its energy, not grass, it was hopping about on concrete. I used a small brush to make quick energetic marks, just like the bird’s darting movement. It was a nice bird. I was very excited.

I’ve had other bird related experiences recently too. I fed the birds! This is because I gave into my bread cravings. I’ve recently worked out that eating bread makes me feel rubbish, but I wanted bread so much that I bought some anyway. I ate some. It made me feel rubbish. So I found some birds (they were at the top of the road, pigeons and seagulls) and fed them the bread I had left over. Here are some pigeons enjoying my bad food choice:

And then I got this stuck in my head!

So, there are some of my recent birdie adventures and art and some Mary Poppins.

Word Of The Day & Some Stephie Art

  • Posted on March 3, 2013 at 9:02 pm

Today’s word is from page 1639 and it is tachisme, noun, a type of action painting evolved in France in which haphazard dabs and blots of colour are treated as a means of instinctive or unconscious expression. C20: French from tache, stain.

Here is some more information from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tachisme

Oh, that’s what I do! Only I tend to call it ‘abstract expressionism’ because I am not French, though merlot often is, and merlot fuels most of my painting. I have tried painting sober, but everything I paint sober looks like cat sick, which would be fine if I wanted to paint cat sick, but I don’t.

Here is a recent piece of tachisme Stephie Art:

'Vagina' 2013 - marked

It is titled ‘Vagina’, it’s a painting of how I feel about my vagina, which is why it is such lovely colours, because my vagina is lovely! It’s also a bit messy, because, y’know…

Nightmarish Stephie Art

  • Posted on December 17, 2012 at 11:47 pm

Here is a dark piece of Stephie Art! ‘Nightmare’, acrylic on A5 paper:

The idea behind this painting was to capture not only the dark shadowiness of a nightmare, but also the feeling of being trapped in a heavy, oppressive ‘nightmarish’ waking situation – thankfully not a place I find myself in at the moment, but I have been. This is a subject I’d like to come back to in future paintings, but interspersed with happier paintings!

Stephie Art – Painting About Painting

  • Posted on October 30, 2012 at 12:41 am

This piece of Stephie Art is a painting about painting. It is called ‘White Wine, A Cigarillo and Spider Plants’.

I’m back to my usual acrylic on A4 watercolour paper. I love the feel of acrylic, the textures I can create. Watercolour is too flat for me!

I also created some more leg art – it was another fun painting session!

This one is called ‘Snake’.

And this one I call ‘Slap’.

Old Friend, New Technique

  • Posted on August 21, 2012 at 4:26 pm

Time for some more Stephie Art! This is another product of my night of drunken painting; I call it ‘Portrait Of Someone I Used To Know’, because that’s what it is.

This style of painting is new to me. When I’ve painted before I’ve not used lots of vertical lines like this. But, Hey! Things change! I choose the colours which best represent what I want to paint, then, I just do whatever feels right. For this one it was flicking a small paint loaded brush to create vertical lines. And so we have it – ‘Portrait Of Someone I Used To Know’.

Soppy Stephie Art

I promised I’d paint love, and I have painted love… or at least ‘The Soft And Gooey Bit In The Middle (2)’, which is the bit that loves and can be loved. It’s also the bit that hurts when such things go wrong. Pretty much everyone has it, and it’s sort of like the middle bit in a nice chocolate. It looks like this:

It is 5cm x 5cm and done in acrylic.

There is also ‘The Soft And Gooey Bit In The Middle (1)’, which is bigger and looks a bit like pizza. That was wrong, the soft and gooey bit is very very small, even if it sometimes seems such a very big thing. And it doesn’t look like pizza at all.

Everyday Adventures #20

  • Posted on August 15, 2012 at 11:05 pm

New Paint! Well, not new, but unopened paint: Daler-Rowney System 3D Ultra Thick Acrylic. I bought this a couple of years ago, right before I ‘tidied’ my paints away and forgot I liked painting, for two years, so it was never used. But I’ve remembered  that I like to paint now, so I finally gave it a go!

I don’t like it.

Well, I don’t think it’s much different to ordinary acrylic, not for the techniques I use anyway. I’ll use it up, but I won’t buy it again.

But that wasn’t my only adventure! I also created ‘Leg Art’!

I was about to wash wonderful swirls of mostly metallic paint off my fingertips when I had the brilliant idea to smear it over my thigh instead (I was painting naked again, and also somewhat drunkenly.) I call it ‘Giggle’, because giggle is what I did when the fabulous idea came to me. Anything that makes me giggle is a Good Thing! Life is much improved by giggles.

So, two adventures in one day; I’m loving my Everyday Adventures!

I Painted Sex!

  • Posted on August 12, 2012 at 7:15 pm

Yes! The latest piece of Stephie Art is ‘Sex’; I painted sex! Sex is mostly silver, with some crimson and violet:

I have used acrylic paint on a wonkily cut piece of black paper, 20cm x 17cm ish. I used a brush to apply the first layer of silver paint, then I smooshed the rest on with my hands – smooshing is fun! Not having painted for about two years until recently, I had forgotten how much fun smooshing paint it! It is also why I paint naked. Yes, naked. Acrylic will wash off your skin, it won’t wash off your clothes. So I paint naked, or at least wearing very little.

It took a while to get this painting just right. Applying paint with a sponge is not the way to go, not when you are painting sex. Smooshing is the way to paint sex. When I had finished, I shouted out ‘Yes! That’s it! That’s it!’ And so I knew: I had indeed painted sex.

Next, I will paint love, awww….

Love My Life!

  • Posted on August 5, 2012 at 11:03 pm

Y’know, I am a very happy Stephie right now! I have a good life, lots going on, love my work, having fun… so I painted it:

I call this piece of Stephie Art ‘Fucking Fabulous!’ because that’s exactly how my life is right now. Long may it continue! It is acrylic on A4 watercolour paper (I like the texture!)
