Nightmarish Stephie Art

  • Posted on December 17, 2012 at 11:47 pm

Here is a dark piece of Stephie Art! ‘Nightmare’, acrylic on A5 paper:

The idea behind this painting was to capture not only the dark shadowiness of a nightmare, but also the feeling of being trapped in a heavy, oppressive ‘nightmarish’ waking situation – thankfully not a place I find myself in at the moment, but I have been. This is a subject I’d like to come back to in future paintings, but interspersed with happier paintings!

Stephie Art – Painting About Painting

  • Posted on October 30, 2012 at 12:41 am

This piece of Stephie Art is a painting about painting. It is called ‘White Wine, A Cigarillo and Spider Plants’.

I’m back to my usual acrylic on A4 watercolour paper. I love the feel of acrylic, the textures I can create. Watercolour is too flat for me!

I also created some more leg art – it was another fun painting session!

This one is called ‘Snake’.

And this one I call ‘Slap’.

Stephie Holiday Art

  • Posted on October 8, 2012 at 10:49 pm

Finally! I’ve scanned the paintings I made on my holidays!

The first is ‘Holiday’ and it’s about, well, that feeling you get on a sunny holiday!

This is watercolour on A5 paper. I prefer acrylics, but they are messy and in huge tubs, so not travel friendly!

The second painting is ‘Dance’, again on A5 paper, watercolour and gouache:

I was watching ‘My Fair Lady’, which I thought was a terrible film, the main characters are horrid! Why do people like this film?! But I did enjoy ‘I Could Have Danced All Night’ and this is what I painted while listening to it.

The last painting was made after eating out, inspired by the colours of my tinto de verano and Spanish olives!

‘Tinto and Tapas’ is watercolour on A5 paper.

Everyday Adventures #26

  • Posted on August 20, 2012 at 8:55 pm

This was a good adventure! I saw the exhibit of paintings by Fiona Rae at Leeds Art Gallery http://www.leeds.gov.uk/museumsandgalleries/Pages/leedsartgallery/Fiona-Rae.aspx. It was very good! Her work is very energetic and vibrant, and much of it has little pandas and bunnies and what not on it. I liked it all! I even found some inspiration for some Stephie Art.

It is only showing until the 26th August, so I recommend you all hurry along to see it before it’s gone! I give this exhibit 9/10, I really enjoyed her work.

I promised I’d paint love, and I have painted love… or at least ‘The Soft And Gooey Bit In The Middle (2)’, which is the bit that loves and can be loved. It’s also the bit that hurts when such things go wrong. Pretty much everyone has it, and it’s sort of like the middle bit in a nice chocolate. It looks like this:

It is 5cm x 5cm and done in acrylic.

There is also ‘The Soft And Gooey Bit In The Middle (1)’, which is bigger and looks a bit like pizza. That was wrong, the soft and gooey bit is very very small, even if it sometimes seems such a very big thing. And it doesn’t look like pizza at all.

Everyday Adventures #20

  • Posted on August 15, 2012 at 11:05 pm

New Paint! Well, not new, but unopened paint: Daler-Rowney System 3D Ultra Thick Acrylic. I bought this a couple of years ago, right before I ‘tidied’ my paints away and forgot I liked painting, for two years, so it was never used. But I’ve remembered  that I like to paint now, so I finally gave it a go!

I don’t like it.

Well, I don’t think it’s much different to ordinary acrylic, not for the techniques I use anyway. I’ll use it up, but I won’t buy it again.

But that wasn’t my only adventure! I also created ‘Leg Art’!

I was about to wash wonderful swirls of mostly metallic paint off my fingertips when I had the brilliant idea to smear it over my thigh instead (I was painting naked again, and also somewhat drunkenly.) I call it ‘Giggle’, because giggle is what I did when the fabulous idea came to me. Anything that makes me giggle is a Good Thing! Life is much improved by giggles.

So, two adventures in one day; I’m loving my Everyday Adventures!

I Painted Sex!

  • Posted on August 12, 2012 at 7:15 pm

Yes! The latest piece of Stephie Art is ‘Sex’; I painted sex! Sex is mostly silver, with some crimson and violet:

I have used acrylic paint on a wonkily cut piece of black paper, 20cm x 17cm ish. I used a brush to apply the first layer of silver paint, then I smooshed the rest on with my hands – smooshing is fun! Not having painted for about two years until recently, I had forgotten how much fun smooshing paint it! It is also why I paint naked. Yes, naked. Acrylic will wash off your skin, it won’t wash off your clothes. So I paint naked, or at least wearing very little.

It took a while to get this painting just right. Applying paint with a sponge is not the way to go, not when you are painting sex. Smooshing is the way to paint sex. When I had finished, I shouted out ‘Yes! That’s it! That’s it!’ And so I knew: I had indeed painted sex.

Next, I will paint love, awww….

Love My Life!

  • Posted on August 5, 2012 at 11:03 pm

Y’know, I am a very happy Stephie right now! I have a good life, lots going on, love my work, having fun… so I painted it:

I call this piece of Stephie Art ‘Fucking Fabulous!’ because that’s exactly how my life is right now. Long may it continue! It is acrylic on A4 watercolour paper (I like the texture!)

I have a functioning scanner!

  • Posted on July 24, 2012 at 1:30 pm

Oh yes! For a long time now, I have not had the ability to scan anything at all, but now I do! This has coincided with me remembering that I quite like painting, and I have a lot of painting materials, so why don’t I paint something? And I did. Then I scanned it. Here it is:

No, my paintings don’t look like things… I paint emotions and memories, not things.

This is called ‘White On Red On White’ and it is a self portrait about contrast. It’s done with gouache on A5 paper.

So, there we have it, Stephie Art, scanned. I might do some more.
